RIP Hammersmith and City Line station

Jack Shamash writes: Unbeknownst to most Londoners there are actually two Hammersmith Stations. The larger one contains the Picadilly and District Lines. But just across the road, there is the old Hammersmith and City Line station.

It's an attractive place with an Edwardian-style front and an arcade running through it. It is also one of the few genuinely peaceful parts of Hammersmith - an area which has been extensively redeveloped over the last 40 years.

Now it's on its way out. Because of the Olympics, Hammersmith and City Line platforms are being extended. This means that part of the arcade will have to be demolished. The pink building in the picture will soon be smashed down. The arcade has already been closed at one end, which means that it is now very quiet and has lost much of its passing trade. Another little piece of London's charm has gone.
