Time Off
Tonight we're going to party like it's closing-down night
- Cult discos
- Discos in the mid-seventies could be quite good places for getting your head kicked in, usually on account of supporting the wrong football team. So looking back, it was obvious that something was wrong at Poorboy.
- Flea pits
- London was once full of cinemas. A roll-call of the deceased from London-RIP's neck of the woods includes the Finchley Gaumont, Hendon Classic, Golders Green ABC, Golders Green Ionic... I think you can see where we're coming from here.
- Music Venues
- One of the London-RIP team wonders if others have had the experience of being music fans in the 70s and 80s, yet somehow missing every crucial gig. It wasn't for lack of being at the right venue either...
- More Venues
- The loss of some of London’s more famous smaller venues has meant that there are fewer places for bands to launch their careers.
- Swimming pools
- If you grew up in North West London, you went swimming at Copthall or Swiss Cottage, Now? Guess what? Swiss Cottage is closed for redevelopment. Luckily, part of the site is going to be used for something London is desperately short of - luxury flats
- Venues again
- In the beginning, there was a canal, with a few twee, hippy-type shops around it and a music venue called DINGWALLS. At least, that's how I remember Camden Town in the early 70s.
